The Tripods (1984) Episode 2

Episode Two

Arriving at a port on the English Channel, Will and Henry marvel at the strangeness of things. Having not found the mysterious Captain Curtis, the boys stop at a tavern to discuss their journey and make a pact that if one gets caught, the other will go on alone. Inside the tavern the boys are accosted by the crew of another boat and are captured and shanghaied into serving on this ship.

JL - I can almost smell fish. Put that down, you don't know where it's been.

IB - I'd really like to know where it's going.

JL - Unlike the plot.

IB - Mmm, meat pies: my favourite.

JL - Henry: 'I'm starving! Worse, I'm ginger!'

IB - What's that Japanese lady doing in the tavern, talking to Curiosity Killed The Cat? How random.

JL - I like Will's jeans/work boots combo there. Say what you will, the fashions are spot on for 2089.

JL - I think Henry is cross eyed as well as ginger. He'll probably die in the last episode.

IB - Of cross-eyed, gingeriness?

IB - Dorry the serving wench is cute, unlike her Berol penned tattoos. What does she say to Will: 'see you later jolly face'? Or dolly babes?

JL - Isn't one of the ghost kids in Moondial called Dorry?

IB - 'Let's make a pact'. 'What's that?'

JL - It's an agreement to fuck on the sly, what else?

IB - Will is being very positive. It'll all go wrong.

JL - He looks like Nyssa here. It's a parallel universe where Traken's finest is a chick with a dick. And Henry must be ginge Tegan.

JL - Some posh looking pirates start being slimy and way too interested. Ooh, creepy. And tense!

IB - He's unshaven. He must be a bad guy.

IB - The nominated creep looks like Turlough. It's not him though, I checked.

JL - I think I'd rather be watching Terminus. This is just terminal.

JL - The Turlough type offers a beer each. They say no. Are they crazy? Free beer?

IB - 'Good health, lads.' Will tucks into a slice of cucumber. Good health indeed.

JL - Unlike their salad, the acting is hammy. Am I the only one who wanted to guzzle the lettuce and bacon bits and leftovers on that plate Henry pushes aside? I really fucking love food.

JL - 'Strong boys come in handy on our old boat.' Homoerotic and tense!

JL - Will and Henry show sense and leg it. 'Be easy, boys!' No chance!

IB - Who scripted this?

JL - Will and Henry are easily defeated by Dexys Midnight Runners. They turn out (of course) to be Captain Curtis and co. Didn't see that coming! Much.
